Martin specialises in criminal law (prosecution and defence). He is an experienced advocate who appears in all levels of courts. His current practice is based predominantly at the Crown Court where he undertakes the full array of criminal work. He is regularly instructed in serious matters such as murder, GBH, large-scale drugs cases, rape, robbery, and complex fraud cases.

Prior to coming to the independent bar, Martin worked at the employed bar for a number of years. In particular, he was employed by the Crown Prosecution Service and by HM Customs and Excise (now HM Revenue and Customs) as prosecution counsel. He continues to retain a strong interest criminal prosecution and is regularly instructed by the Department for Work and Pensions.
